Consultancy: the offer

I define consultancy as the art of finding out the client’s true needs, and the science of advising them how best to meet those needs.  It relies on similar sort of skills as does the science and art of coaching, but the results are much more prescribed, and usually time-specific.

As a consultant, I work with the client to first of all establish where the need for external expertise is coming from, and advise them on the cheapest and most sustainable ways of meeting those needs: sometimes I advise them not to get an external solution at all!

I then work within the client’s sphere of influence – which may include team members, colleagues, other organisational stakeholders, board-level leadership, external influencers – to establish the best course of action within the agreed timescale.  I always try and leave the client with self-sustainable skills to further implement, manage and monitor change.

Change, Leadership, Communication and Learning design are my specialist areas of expertise, but I have also consulted on Creativity, Diversity, Systems training, Editorial policy and compliance, and Team effectiveness.  If you have any specific needs that you would like to discuss – please feel free to contact me for an exploratory conversation.

Ana was able to help me explore my approach to difficult conversations, finding what worked and what doesn’t. As a result, I was able to navigate some thorny people performance challenges, and now have a much more effective team.
